There are only a couple of vitamins you need to watch for over dosing; A (which many multi vitamins have too much of) and Iron. If you take what the recommended does is on the bottle, you should be ok.

The vitamins known as antioxidants help your body repair itself and keep it free from many things. For example; C, B complex, E are just a few of the antioxidants that to me are basics you should take daily. Why? Because you body does not store certain things and you need to replenish them. C is good for many things, immune system to skin.

There are many places you can get detailed information about vitamins and what they do. I'd start at the health food store, many give away magazines that discuss vitamins in detail. I have a large chart showing several vitamins and what they are good for (parts of the body), which I got from a health food store free magazine.
