Why is Vitamin C called "Vitamin C"? Specifically, does the name have anything to do with Citric fruits?

I know that the L-enantiomer of ascorbic acid is known as Vitamin C. I am just wondering whether there is any significance to the letter "C", or if it is just a coincidence.

Citric acid is where the C is derived from… Also it makes sense because of the order of the alphabet. Vitamin A, B, C, D, E, etc… K
