How much vitamin C should an adult with a cold take?

Posted by admin on Nov 7, 2009

Vitamin C doesn’t reduce the onset or severity of colds, but it reduces the duration of them.
What’s the max amount of Vitamin C I can take before it plateaus or becomes dangerous for me?

As much as you want really. Vitamin C is one of the least toxic vitamins out there. They’ve injected rats with the equivalent of 500,000 mg of vitamin C with no ill effects other than diarrhea. I take 5,000 mg everynight for it’s anti-oxidant properties.

But it does increase the ability of your body to absorb iron, so don’t get too crazy.

It takes a long time and lots and lots of consumption of vitamin C to make it dangerous. Just don’t down the entire bottle of pills.

When it’s too much your body should eliminate it by itself (you’ll get diarrhea) at which point you should lower the dose… ;)
