Natural Medicine Leads to Real Cures
In contrast, the philosophy of natural medicine holds that a weakened immune system (and/or along with other weakened bodily systems) is the reason foreign invaders can thrive, producing symptoms and diseases.
Most of us are taught that we need to go to medical doctors when we get sick. What we aren’t taught is that the real doctor is already within us as the innate wisdom of the body. This is the difference between conventional allopathic systems and natural holistic medicine systems. The philosophy of natural medicine is that, given the right conditions, the body will heal itself. Whereas the allopathic model tries to control defective body systems through drug intervention, or kill foreign invaders with antibiotics, natural medicine rarely includes toxic agents. Instead, herbs, homeopathic remedies and other non-invasive therapies are used. These techniques harmoniously help facilitate the repair and strengthening of bodily systems (especially the immune system, which can then properly fight foreign invaders), or help to destroy offending pathogens without toxic side effects. The goal of natural medicine is to figure out why systems have weakened and then repair them, which results in healing.
Allopathic Medicine—Symptom/Disease Management
The allopathic medical philosophy taught at most medical schools, and practiced by the majority of medical doctors, relies on the concept of identifying diseases or symptoms, and then prescribing drugs to manage or combat those conditions. It is a system that considers the disease or symptom to be the actual problem, as opposed to addressing the underlying causes that produced the disease or symptom in the first place. A wide variety of tests, procedures and equipment specially designed to identify diseases and symptoms have been developed, which on one level is great, because these tests could be used to help figure out underlying causes. Yet, on another level they are very limiting, since they are rarely used for such purposes. Typically, once a diagnosis is determined, the tests are plunked into the patient’s file as conclusive evidence of his or her condition.

Water fasting, any heart burn remedies?
Posted by admin on Nov 16, 2009
*Please don’t post negative comments about fasting, im aware of what i’m doing, thanks for caring though!*
This is my third day water fasting, so far so good, very mild hunger pains if any, but I have one problem, heartburn!
Drinking a tall glass of water calms it down a little bit, but does anybody have a remedy for heartburn while water fasting?
Thanks in advance, any advice will be much appreciated.
Please be aware that heart burn is not related to the heart. It is related to acid reflux from your stomach to your esophageus. In medically term this is GERD.
Conservative treatment for GERD is to loose weight, avoid tea, sleep with a few pillows, stop smoking and drinking.
Medical treatment will include some anti acid H2 blocker that inhibit acid production. Famotidine, Ranitidine will be good options. If that does not help try some proton pump inhibitor like omeprazole. They works better, but they are much more expensive.
Natural Home Remedies for Obesity
Posted by admin on Nov 15, 2009
Causes and Symptoms:Obesity or corpulence is a condition of the body characterized by over-accumulation of fat under the skin and around certain of the internal organs. While the state of health differs from person to person, other things being equal, the father a person is, the slower he will be. In some cases fat persons are slow of wit. Doctors and actuaries have calculated the weight that a person of a particular height should have and anybody having a weight much above the average is likely to be unhealthy and would have a lower life expectancy. Insurance companies hesitate, and in some cases refuse, to insure the lives of people who are too fat. It has been proved from experience that the obese have a grater chance of dying early than those of average weight. Recorded cases exist where extremely overweight people did not live beyond their thirties, some of them passing away even before they entered middle age.
Corpulence is ascribed to many causes. It may be due to the disturbances of some of the endocrine glands, like the thyroid, pituitary and sex glands. In some families obesity is transmitted from one generation to the other, but in most cases it is the direct result of a life of ease and over-eating. A luxurious inactive or sedentary life is a well-recognized predisposing cause. The more immediate cause is over feeding and excess of liquor. The indulgence is food beyond what is required to repair the daily waste goes towards the increase of fat. Those addicted to liquor are particularly affected if they eat a normal diet since what is not generally realized is that alcohol meets the immediate energy needs of the body and the food that is eaten is deposited in the form of fat. Particularly guilty in this respect is to intake of fatty, sugary and starchy foods. Alcoholic liquors, particularly beer, contain sugar and contribute to the deposition of fat on the body.
Women are more prone to obesity, particularly after childbirth. In our country, this is especially true because the new mother is fed on fatty and starchy foods under the impression that the blood loss attendant on delivery must be made up by extra rich diet.
Health cannot be long maintained under excessive obesity, for the increase in the bulk of the body, rendering exercise more difficult, leads to tension and defective nutrition of the muscle, while the accumulations of fat in the chest hinders the functions of the various organs of the body. The mental activity of the corpulent tends to be impaired, although there have been exceptions to this rule.
The obese succumb much more readily to serious diseases like diabetes, gallstone, arterial disease, high blood pressure and varicose veins. Life insurance statistics how show that an increase of 25 pounds above standard weight reduce the life expectancy of a man of 45 by 25 per cent.
Nature gave men a balanced body, but way wrong food habits some of us tend make cartoons of ourselves. There being a weight-energy ratio, the more obese a person is, the more energy his body consumes merely to maintain itself and the sum of energy left for other activities is proportionately reduced. You would notice that those who live by manual labour seldom suffer from corpulence: it is the leisured class, with nothing much to do but too much to eat who become fat.
Corpulence is like constipation; just as waste accumulates in the gut, matter, which should have been thrown out of the body, tends to gather in the form of fat on the various organs. Skin being stretchable, fat accumulates in layers upon layers under the epidermis.
Treatment:One would agree that not to become fat is better than reducing when you have attained a certain degree of corpulence. One would not have become obese if he had attended to his food habits and had taken exercise. The battle against obesity has, therefore, to be fought with courage and fortitude. Weight could be reduced by fasting in a limited time but that is not advisable. Sudden and total fasting may help the poison accumulated in the body to attack it. Fasting has to be gradual and controlled. The best course is to make fruits and boiled vegetables the main stay of your diet. A diet of fruits and vegetables will give you the vitamins and mineral salts for the sustenance of life, but would tend to reduce the amount of fat that has already been accumulating. The other method of reducing the fat is accumulating. The other method of reducing the fat is vigorous exercise. Foods tending towards acidity like meat, fish eggs, refined flour, lentils, fats polished rice should be totally banned in the case of obesity. Whatever the patient eats should be bland, because seasoning and condiments tend to make the food more palatable increasing the danger of overeating. The fruits recommended are oranges, pineapples, raspberry, tomatoes, apples, pears papaya, muskmelon and melon, in that order. The vegetables should be greens of all type, cucumber gourds, etc. tuberous edibles should be avoided. Only carrot may be taken with advantage.
After a fortnight of the diet prescribed above, the patient can be allowed to take whole meal, bread, a pat of butter and milk. The first thing in the morning that the corpulent should take is a glass of water to which a lime has been added. Salads should be permitted provided that salad oil or eggs have not been added. The best reducing agent in the present author’s experience has been the juice of cucumber, gourd and tomatoes to which a lime and a spoonful of honey has been added. It between meals, snacks should consist of cucumber and tomatoes in any quantity.
If the above regimen is adopted the weight will start going down, but the patient should not lose heart if the progress is slow in the beginning. A speedy reduction of weight is possible by vigorous exercise coupled with inadequate diet, but that might prove harmful to the general health of the patient. The best exercise I would recommend is skipping the rope, and other exercise which strains the muscles can be undertaken with advantage.
A hipbath for 15 to 20 minutes in the morning and evening along with the diet and the exercise recommended would speed up the process of losing fat. Mudpacks can also help, as can sunbathing for long enough to produce a sweat. Stem baths for the purposes of reducing corpulence are not recommended by any knowledge naturopath since the benefit is not permanent and too much of exposure to steam is likely to harm the nerve ends under your skin.
The best season to start slimming in India and other tropical conditions is the summer when a large variety of stress help in the reduction of fat in the body. The appetite is reduced because heat makes you thirsty all the time. You take a little bit of food and are eager to slake your thirst. And then it is during summers that the body has a natural tendency to shed fat.
Some slimming exercises are recommended below: it would be. Sit up with a jerk. Stand on your knees touch other. Now tense your muscles and move your neck as back as you can and resume the former position. Sit on the stool again and repeat the process as many times as you can. Continue it till you feel tired. Do it 50 to 100 times if you want real benefit. Relax your body after each time that you get up and move your neck and shoulders back. Sit with your buttocks on the edge of low-slung stool. Extend your legs as far they will go and keep your hands on the rear end of the stool for support. Then stand up with a jerk, inhaling deeply in the process. And then resume your position.
Try taking your shoulders back with a jerk as you sit down. That will strengthen your spinal column.
Try skipping a rope for as long as you can. It helps in keeping the fat down. Remember that the boxes do it every day to increases their stamina.

Five Secret Natural Allergy Remedies To Try
Posted by admin on Nov 12, 2009
Approximately one out of every ten Americans suffers from allergies of some type. Allergies are the body’s natural reaction to any foreign substance. When the body encounters one of these substances, it produces many different substances, including histamines. Once released into the body, these cause tissue swellings called allergies. Allergies can affect many different parts of the body including the lungs, skins, nasal passages, sinuses, and stomach. Symptoms of an allergic reaction can include intestinal pain, bloating, mood swings, exhaustion, throat swelling, difficulty breathing, increased heart rate, swelling or bloating of the skin, watery eyes, itchy nose, and sneezing. There are many things that cause allergies including pollen, mold, flowers, dust mites, grass, and spores. Additionally, food and chemicals can be an allergy trigger. The medical community has come up with all sorts of ways to treat allergies, but many people shy away from modern day medicine because of the extensive side effects associated with some of the treatments. It is often the case that the treatment is worse than the cure.
One natural allergy remedy is butterbur. Butterbur is a plant that grows in marshy areas and has three foot leaves. They can be found across Europe, in Asia, and in North America. It is a gentle, natural remedy that is free of antihistamines for those who wish to treat hay fever. It has been used for centuries to treat all sorts of ailments, but it has been found most effective at treating allergy style symptoms. It can also help reduce the muscle spasms associated with allergies. Butterbur is typically taken in tablet form, as the plants themselves can be toxic if not properly processed. The roots are dried, beaten to powder, and combined with other natural ingredients to create the tablet. It is best to take one tablet three times a day, but consult the packaging for more specific instructions.
Another natural allergy remedy is locally grown honey. This product can assist with hay fever and other pollen allergic reactions. It is important to start with small amounts. Approximately a teaspoon per day should help. You must first ensure the honey agrees with your body. If it doesn’t, discontinue use immediately. If you notice discomfort in the gastrointestinal area, it is important not to use it again. The goal is to work up to several teaspoons per day to ward off hay fever. If you decide to use honey, be sure to do several things first. Talk to your doctor before you try any natural remedies. Remember that you might have a bad reaction to the honey. Not every treatment works for every person. You should only purchase non-pasteurized honey. The honey should be purchased from a local beekeeper or at a local farmer’s market to ensure the freshest quality available is consumed. Try to make sure the honey was collected at the same time of year that you suffer from allergies. This will increase the effectiveness of this cure. To make sure you get the best results possible, use the honey one month before your typical allergy season. Using it in the midst of your difficult season won’t be enough. Also, do not heat the honey. It decreases its natural healing properties. One last note, begin with a small amount and increase gradually.
Another natural allergy remedy is green tea. People who regularly consume green tea have noticed that they suffer less from sneezing, coughing, and watery eyes. Green tea is best consumed in purer forms. Don’t pollute it with additives like honey, and don’t use chemically processed tea either. It is important that you consume at least one cup per day. You should try to work your way up to three cups per day. It does not matter if the tea is consumed hot or cold.
An additional natural allergy remedy is Echinacea. This herb has been known to treat all sorts of problems, including hay fever. It aids in the production of interferon, which assists with decreasing the swelling in tissues, which, in turn, helps stop the runny nose and watery eyes associated with allergies.
One final natural allergy remedy is vitamin C. You become extremely susceptible to allergens if your diet does not contain enough of this essential vitamin. Vitamin C detoxifies foreign substances entering the body and strengthens your cells. Dosages can be up to one thousand milligrams per day.

does anyone know any home remedies for a kitten with heart-worms?
Posted by admin on Nov 10, 2009
my brother’s 2 year-old has a kitten with heart-worms and I want to help
Has a kitten with heart worms? How old is this kitten? It’s pretty unusual for a cat to ahve heartworms (although it does happen) and almost unheard of for a kitten. If the kitten is under 6 months old it’s almost impossible for it to have heartworms. Are you sure the kitten doesn’t have some other type of worms (intestinal parasites) such as tapeworms or roundworms, which are much more common in kittens.
Piles – Home Remedies for Piles
Posted by admin on Nov 9, 2009
Piles is a very common ailment. Women have higher incidence than men. The reason behind it is not clearly known. It is more commonly seen in adolescent age group and aged persons who all seem to be more tensed.
In medical terminology, piles is known as hemorrhoids. Piles refers to a condition in which the veins around the anus or lower rectum are swollen and inflamed. It is the dilatation (varicosity) of the veins of anus. It appears as bluish coloured swellings due to stagnated blood. Piles arise due to the increased pressure of internal or external veins around the anal canal.
Piles can be both internal and external. Internal hemorrhoids, unless they are severe, cannot be seen or felt. There is however, a discharge of dark blood. External hemorrhoids can be seen around the outside of the anus, and there is a lot of pain but not much bleeding. In some cases, the veins burst and this results in what is known as bleeding piles.
Symptoms –
Symptoms of piles vary, and depend on the type and place of origin. Piles in its initial stage is most commonly found to be without any symptoms.
However, the most common symptoms include -
• Intense pain at the time of passing stool.
• A pain around the anus and lower rectum, which can be quite severe.
• Frequent ineffectual urge for stool without passing stool or without satisfaction of complete evacuation.
• Itching in the rectal area.
• There may be bleeding. This will be bright red blood, not usually mixed in with the motion.
• There is often a feeling of something bulging, or hanging down from the anus.
• If a haemorrhoid at the outside of the anus gets a blood clot, it leads to tender lump.
• Anemia due to profuse bleeding.
• Wind formation in the stomach.
• Sitting becomes difficult due to pain.
If left untreated, piles can lead to complications including, infection, prolapse, necrosis and gangrene. Painful bleeding usually indicates startup of complications.
Causes -
Haemorrhoids are very common. It is more common in people, who regularly follow a low fibre, and high processed diet, such as processed flour, polished rice, bread etc. The main contributory cause is anything that raises the pressure in the abdomen, which leads the blood vessels to swell and become engorged.
Thus, the main cause of piles include -
- People chronically suffering from constipation.
- Even diarrhoea can cause piles. The strain for passing the stool is the main reason for the development of piles.
- After or during pregnancy, as the baby may press on the main blood vessel that returns blood to the heart.
- Overweight people.
- Physical strain – even coughing for long periods can cause the anal veins to strain.
- General weakness of the tissues of the body.
- Low fiber diet
- Age
- Hereditary
- Anal intercourse
- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
- Strenuous work
- Mental tension
Piles Treatment –
It is usually best to treat piles with the least treatment possible, as even after the most extensive treatments, there is a possibility that they may still return.
Usually, piles becomes better with increased water intake, a high fibre dietary regimen and other measures to correct the constipation. Care for blood loss should be taken to avoid anaemia.
Many times, they settle on their own over a matter of days without any treatment.
Haemorrhoidectomy refers to the removal of the pile by surgery. In this advanced laser treatment, the surgery reduces the pain and blood loss. However, in course of time, there is a possibility of the recurrence of piles even after surgery.
Over the counter drugs, include cream or suppositories. These soothe itching and pain, and cause the swelling and bleeding to diminish.
If the pain is very severe, cold compresses with ice can be helpful.
Homeopathic treatment, under an expert is also an effective way of dealing with this problem.
Prevention –
Haemorrhoids are very common, and may occur even after surgical removal. However, one may follow certain preventive steps to avoid recurrence –
- Avoid becoming overweight, and lose weight if you are.
- Eat a high fibre diet.
- Exercise regularly.
- Take rest and avoid long walks if you are suffering form piles.
- Drink plenty of water and follow regular bowel habits to avoid constipation.
- Use Indian style toilets since the squatting position is better for natural defecation
- If required, pass stool twice a day to avoid constipation.
- Don’t strain to evacuate hard faecal matter.
- Take easily digestible, simple homemade food. Avoid spices, chilli, very hot or cold food, and alcohol.
- Take foods such as green vegetables, ginger, onion, garlic, beetroot, bitter gourd, which helps in healing piles.
- Avoid eating potato, and the yellow variety of pumpkin.
- Take plenty of high fibre fruits especially papaya, mango, lime, jamun, figs, etc.
- Avoid sedentary habits, alcohol, smoking and unnecessary drugs like painkillers.
Some useful home remedies for piles –
- Take 1 table spoon of roasted black cumin seeds and mix with 1 tablespoon of unroasted black cumin seeds and powder both together. Take 1/2 a teaspoon of this mixture with a glass of water once a day.
- Drink a glass of buttermilk with 1/4 tsp carom seed powder (ajwain) and a pinch of rock salt.
- The jamun fruit should be taken with salt every morning for two or three months during its season.
- Soak 2-3 dried figs in a glass of cold water overnight. Have it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Have them for 2-3 weeks for good results. It is effective in the treatment for ordinary as well as bleeding piles.
- Mix 1 teaspoon fresh mint leaves juice with 1 teaspoon lemon juice & 1 tablespoon honey. Take 3 times a day for relief from piles.
- Take ½ cup radish juice in the morning and night for a period of 1 month.
- Boil 1 ripe banana in 1 cup of milk, mash well. Take 3-4 times a day.
- Extract 3 teaspoon of bitter gourd juice, and mix in 1 glass of buttermilk, and drink on an empty stomach every morning, for a month.

A little bit of baking soda in some water can neutralize stomach acid – it does contain quite a bit of sodium.
Prilosec and Zantac both work really well. Tums, Rolaids or Mylanta also work pretty well.
Insomnia Treatment With Ayurvedic and Home Remedies
Posted by admin on Nov 6, 2009
Insomnia has become one of the commonest lifestyle-related problems in the world today. Sleep is extremely necessary to bring the body back to a normal state of functioning. Without sleep, the body will be unable to work efficiently and thus progress will be hampered.
An aggravation of the vata or the pitta doshas causes insomnia. Insomnia is not related to the kapha dosha. Such an aggravation can be caused due to several factors such as:
- A very busy and hectic lifestyle which is rife with mental problems
- Consuming a heavy meal shortly before bedtime
- Sleeping in the afternoons (siesta)
- Lethargic life without much activity
- Non-conducive climatic conditions
- Physiological reasons such as menopause in women
- Diseases such as high blood pressure, heart diseases or diseases of the kidney and liver.
It must be noted that both overwork and less work can cause insomnia. Hence, in order to get good sleep, it is necessary that the person word adequately according to their physical capacity and lead a healthy lifestyle.
(1) Useful Herbs in the Treatment of Insomnia
1. Aniseed (Pimpinella anisum)
Aniseed helps in relaxing the nervous system. Its pleasant taste helps the body to rest. Hence its tea is prescribed to people having insomnia problems.
2. Celery (Apium graveolens)
Just like aniseed, celery also makes the body relax and the nerves to soothe down.
3. Indian Sorrel (Oxalis corniculata)
The juice of the leaves of the Indian sorrel has good effects in inducing sleep.
4. Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans)
Nutmeg is used especially in treating sleep problems in children. It is usually taken in mixture with other substances like amalaki and honey.
5. Rauwolfia (Rauwolfia serpentina)
Rauwolfia has natural sedative properties. At the same time it is non-stimulating. So it can be used by children and adults alike to treat their problems of sleeplessness. It is much more effective if its powdered root is taken along with some other scented substance like cardamom or vanilla.
6. Valerian (Valeriana officinalis)
Valerian is almost a narcotic in its effects on the human body, but it contains none of the addictive dangers. Consumption of the valerian root can reduce excitements, irritations and pains and induce good sleep.
(2) Dietary Treatments for Insomnia
A healthy diet can help in getting a good restful sleep at night. The following guidelines must be obeyed:-
1. For people who constantly suffer from insomnia problems, heavy foods must be avoided. If the person needs to have a heavy meal, then it must be taken at least three to four hours before retiring to bed. A walk after dinner helps to digest the food and bring good sleep at night.
2. A glass of buffalo milk before bedtime is good for sleep. Butter and ghee are also considered to be sleep-inducers.
3. As far as possible, spicy and oily foods must be avoided after dusk, especially if the person is prone to lose sleep at night.
(3) Ayurvedic Treatments for Insomnia
In most general cases, medication is not necessary to treat insomnia. The Ayurvedic doctor would first ascertain the cause of the sleeplessness and then eliminate it. This is enough to bring sleep.
But if sleeplessness persists, then medicines made from brahmi, vacha and amalaki are prescribed. They are provided in powder form, either collectively or separately.
Massaging the head with sesame oil is also beneficial in treating sleeplessness. Several yogic asanas are also prescribed, such as paschimottasana, shirasana, sarvangasana, uttanasana, etc.
(4) Home Remedies for Insomnia
1. Take a glassful of celery juice and mix a teaspoonful of honey in it. Have this every night before going to bed. It will assure a restful sleep throughout the night.
2. Grind some fried cumin seed to a fine powder. Mix them with the pulp of a ripe banana. Eating this at night induces sleep.
3. Mix the juice of the leaves of the Indian sorrel with its oil in equal contents. This is to be stored in a bottle. Massage this oil into the scalp every night before going to bed. It will cool the brain down and help get good sleep.
4. For people suffering from chronic insomnia, there is a therapy known as dhara, which can be done at home. Boil about two liters of buffalo milk with 60 grams of amalaki (Emblica officinalis, Indian gooseberry) powder. The milk with curdle. Churn this curd by adding water and extract butter from it. Make the patient lie flat on the ground on a mat. Suspend the buttermilk from an earthen pot with a hole in its base, such that the buttermilk drips directly between the two eyebrows of the person on the ground. Continue this therapy for about twenty minutes. Within a few days the insomnia will be totally cured.
The best way to treat insomnia is to seek a change in the lifestyle. Make your life simpler and avoid tensions and worries. This will not only provide good sleep, but it will also keep the body free from several other diseases and infections.

Heart burn remedies anyone?
Posted by admin on Nov 4, 2009
I have had heart burn for 3 or 4 days and it doesn’t seem to want to go away. im not sure what to do about this. by the way. does milk help to get rid of it?
I think milk doesn’t help you to eradicate heart burn. If you have problem of heart burn you should try to find out that which the substances that act as causative agent to create heart burn.
For your help below I mention some food items that can cause heart burn and you should avoid them.
• Don’t use sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) as a home remedy. It can upset the acid/alkaline balance of the body and create a dangerous situation.
• Antacids can be effective but can contain undesirable ingredients not suitable for people with heart disease or high blood pressure. There is also thought that continued use of antacids can actually cause further stomach acid secretion.
• Eat slowly, chew thoroughly and relax during mealtime.
• Calcium carbonate contains Tums. It can be purchased as a powder and can function as an antacid.
• Don’t smoke. Nicotine adversely affects the tone of the esophageal sphincter muscle and can directly contribute to heartburn.
• Be careful while taking other medication and make sure that they are not a cause of your heartburn
