If sodium benzoate and Vitamin C can form a carcinogen when they come together in a cosmetic product?
Posted by admin on Nov 16, 2009
sodium benzoate breaks down to become benzene when it encounters vitamin c. Sodas and soft drinks have been targeted as potentially carcinogenic as a result. These ingredients often co-exist in cosmetics – so could the same thing happen?
Two of the most dangerous elements in the world are sodium and chlorine. Each, on their own are very dangerous. When mixed with a variety of substances, they both can react very violently. When these two horrible elements are brought together in balance, they form sodium chloride, also known as table salt.
Unstable ingredients are often mixed to make stable materials.
How long does vitamin C last in the body?
Posted by admin on Nov 12, 2009
If I take 500 mg or 1,000 mg of vitamin C(ascorbic acid), how long will this last in the body? I realize it is water-soluble so it doesn’t last very long, but how long exactly before it gets used up or goes to the bladder? This question is about regular vitamin C pills and powders, not sustained release vitamin C tablets.
duno, our body requires daily doses of it, so maybe less than 24 hours???
About taking tons of vitamin C? How much of it can the body use and what happens to the rest?
Posted by admin on Nov 10, 2009
With the use of Vitamin C
is there a limit to how much is useful to take, and what does the body do with the rest? Details please , can anyone explain, thanks
Have there been any studies on taking tons of vitamin C? At Universities or other places of research?
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) plays a role in collagen, carnitine, hormone, and amino acid formation. It is essential for wound healing and facilitates recovery from burns. Vitamin C is also an antioxidant, supports immune function, and facilitates the absorption of iron.
How much vitamin C should an adult with a cold take?
Posted by admin on Nov 7, 2009
Vitamin C doesn’t reduce the onset or severity of colds, but it reduces the duration of them.
What’s the max amount of Vitamin C I can take before it plateaus or becomes dangerous for me?
As much as you want really. Vitamin C is one of the least toxic vitamins out there. They’ve injected rats with the equivalent of 500,000 mg of vitamin C with no ill effects other than diarrhea. I take 5,000 mg everynight for it’s anti-oxidant properties.
But it does increase the ability of your body to absorb iron, so don’t get too crazy.
What is it about vitamin c that makes farts stink so good?

What happens when Vitamin C is added to an iodine and starch solution?
Posted by admin on Nov 2, 2009
It’s a grade 10 high school chemistry question
As you may already know, an iodine and starch solution is an aqueous solution with a dark violet/black color. But when you add vitamin C to the solution, what happens? Can you provide a lengthy explanation for me? Tomorrow, I’m doing an experiment which tests the levels of vitamin C in different substances, but all I need to know for now is what will happen.
Vitamin C. reacts with iodine:
C6H8O6 + I2 ==> C6H6O6 + 2H+ + 2 I-
So you can use titration with iodine to find out the concentration of vitamin C. Since the reaction ratio is 1:1, moles vitamin = moles I2 at the endpoint, so concentrations (M) x volumes are also equal. The reasoning is a bit like in acid-base titrations, which you might have met.
The suspended starch forms a dark blue loosely held complex (almost a solid state solution) with I2, so long as there is any, so it acts as an indicator.
How much Vitamin C is needed to Induce my period?
Posted by admin on Oct 30, 2009
Ok so, I’ve heard that Vitamin C can induce ones period. I would like to induce it because I’m going on Vaca during the time I’m suppost to have it. So I was told Vitamin C and Parsley tea. So how much Vitamin C do I have to take to help Induce(per day). Aswell I’m wondering how much Parsley tea am I suppost to drink too. Merci!
Parsley tea just keep drinking a few times a day until your period turns up – remember to use fresh herb and don’t boil. Vitamin C will help, but only if you get a product without bioflavinoids that are added to vitamin C to protect against miscarriage, you want a vitamin C product with the ingredient ascorbic acid as this is what you need to be taking. Dosage is 6-12 grams per day, divide this equally to take throughout the day with plenty of water. Don’t take these for more than 10 days, prolonged use can have serious health implications – any side-effects such as diarrhea, headaches, upset stomach, abdominal cramps, hot flashes, and/or rashes stop use straight away.
See http://www.sisterzeus.com – it’s a horrible site to navigate through, but a lot of useful information.
You can only induce if you have at least two weeks of uterus lining build-up, don’t overdose and don’t use parsley if you have any liver problems. If it doesn’t work then it’s no big deal, just use menstrual cups so you don’t have to think about your periods while you’re off enjoying yourself, and there’s plenty to prevent menstrual problems like cramps or PMS if you suffer from them.
Edit: These aren’t urban myth, they are commonly used not only to induce menstruation but also within emergency contraception and herbal abortion. Parsley well known as a mild emmenagogue meaning it relaxes your cervix, and vitamin C starves the uterus of progesterone. You can also combine different progesterone blocking, uterine contracting and oestrogenic herbs to induce your period – but Parsley and vitamin C are the safest and most commonly used methods.
Can you take vitamin C pills to make a paste and apply on your face?
Posted by admin on Oct 24, 2009
I heard that vitamin C or E is very good for your skin. Can you smash vitamin C pills, make a paste and apply on your face? Would that have the same effect on your skin as you take the pill orally? Is it even more effective than swallowing vitamin C pills?
How about Vitamin E? Can you break the gel and apply it on your face? Would that be more effective than taking it orally?
it’s probably best to ingest it so it’s distributed throughout your body. it might dry out your skin or something.
How can you know the fruit that contains the most vitamin c?
Posted by admin on Oct 22, 2009
Please type the preparation to know how can you get the most vitamin c from a fruit. I need this for my chemistry investigatory project that is entitled "What fruit contains the most vitamin c?" Thanks a lot.
Actually, you need to do what is called an iodometric titration. Essentially, this is how it works: When you combine iodine and starch (I use cornstarch), it reacts to form a purple color. However, when Vitamin C is present, the purple color will not appear. So you keep adding the iodine solution until the purple DOES appear, indicating that all of the Vitamin C has been "used up." I teach high school, and I have my kids do this every year. I do not have the exact "recipe" for the iodine solution here at home, however, you can surely search IODOMETRIC TITRATION, and find it.
How good is taking mega doses of vitamin C?
Posted by admin on Oct 22, 2009
I have added a mega dose of vitamin C ( 25 grams) per day. My doctor tells me that I am waisting money because after a certain amount your body eliminates it. But yet everything I read (Dr Linus Pauling) says that mega doses will most certainly keep you healthier. Any information or experiences that I can receive will be greatly appreciated.
There isn’t much point – and you might be harming yourself….a lot of the new info out says that more than 2,000mgs of Vitamin C* could be harmful…
I take 1,000mgs of C a day in divided doses because I have a connective tissue disorder, and I’m prone to scurvy-like symptoms – but I really think that if you get 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, most people are gonna come out way ahead….and in a pill, I would say 500 is more than plenty….that does seem to be the top end of what people should take – I’ve seen the data, its pretty convincing…
*Note, I said Vitamin C – not foods that contain vitamin C….there is a big difference biochemically between the two….
Read some more recent materials. Paulings most recent work is over twenty years old….in science, thats ancient
