Mixing heart rx and homeopathic/herb teas?

Posted by admin on Sep 26, 2009

I just had a heart attack and have many meds and will need a bypass. Is it ok to drink detox teas or will they interfere with my drugs? I’m 59.

The more meds you take the bigger the NO for the herbals. Some heart drugs like digatalis react fatally with herbs by increasing heart rate and "thinning" blood. Generally, it is dangerous to mix any herbals and rx drugs unless you specifically consult a PHARMACIST, not an herbalist. It matters what drugs you are taking, get a nursing drug reference and look up your drugs. The 2007 Mosby’s Nursing Drug Reference includes medication interactions with herbals.

How do you cure heart cancer without surgery?

is it possible?
please let me know quick….

Heart cancer is rare, but I know that it occurs because people in the Sarcoma group where I go have Angiosarcoma. It is a rare disease so not many people have heard about it (also referred to as Cardiac Sarcoma or Angiosarcoma of the Heart).

Primary cardiac tumors.-

Cardiac tumors are a rare, but potentially curably form of heart disease. A high index of clinical suspicion is necessary for diagnosis as these tumors have protean manifestations that mimic a variety of other cardiac and noncardiac diseases. Presently, M-mode and two-dimensional echocardiography are utilized as safe, reliable, and noninvasive imaging modalities. Seventy-five per cent of these tumors are benign, with myxoma accounting for 50% and rhabodomyoma comprising 20% of lesions. Various histologic types of sarcoma are the predominant malignant cardiac neoplasms. With strict attention to avoiding perioperative tumor embolization, surgical resection of these lesions can be accomplished with minimal morbidity and mortality. Sixteen consecutive primary tumors of the heart have been surgically treated at Duke University Medical Center since 1966 with no perioperative deaths and no late recurrences.

Surgery is a must in these cases, as with out surgery other complications may arise and it may be fatel. So advise immediate surgery followed by chemotherapy. Your Oncologist will be the best person to take the decision. Best of lluck for the patient. -

I’m high risk for heart disease any suggestions for good food low in salt? Do you have to cut out fat and salt

Posted by admin on Sep 24, 2009

I just found out that I’m at high risk for a heart attack. No big surprise to me actually because I knew it was coming. But I was told to stay off the salt eat foods with no sodium. What about other factors like high in sugar or fat. What if it is low in salt but high in another area how do I know what is good? I heart garlic is good for your heart but doesn’t it have salt in it.

IMHO, it is more important to limit fats than salt. Here is a web page with some guidelines:

http://www.pcrm.org/resources/education/nutrition/nutrition1.html

There are also a lot of books, written by doctors, along the same lines, and most of them have recipes, too. I think almost all of them are low-salt as well as very low-fat. They are also all vegetarian, since it is very difficult to have a truly low-fat diet while eating animal foods. Look for books by Dean Ornish, Caldwell Esselstyn, John McDougall, Neal Barnard, and Joel Fuhrman. The China Study by T. Colin Campbell is fascinating reading, too (no recipes, though). It is definitely possible for food to be low in salt and fat. You just need to be creative about finding other ways to season it.

It is good that you have found this out before having a heart attack. I hope you are able to turn it around.

What does vitamin C do for the digestion?

Posted by admin on Sep 24, 2009

I realize its an acid(ascorbic acid), but what exactly does it do in the stomach if you take a large dose? I realize a large enough dose will cause diarrhea, but below this dose, what does vitamin C do? Does it improve digestion? Does it block anything? Thanks.

Well, vitamin C is an antioxidant. in the stomach , it will reduce ferric (non-absorbable iron) to ferrous(absorbable iron) . by this way , the body gets its iron requirements. as an acid , it will help in enzyme activation . its excess will cause Hypervitaminosis C , then the body will be in a state of acidosis if this continues.
